The plaintiffs, Preston and Marie Parrish, claim they became seriously ill after eating lettuce from Taco Bell in Durand.

The investigation into the Cyclosporiasis outbreak origin continues.  The infection is often linked to contaminated fresh produce.

Symptoms associated with the illness include prolongued "explosive" diarrhea, stomach cramps and fatigue.  The illness, which can take weeks after exposure to manifest, can last for weeks or longer.

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported on Thursday July 23rd, that more than 7,600 individuals have been impacted statewide, with more than 400 of those within Shiawassee County.

MDHHS: "Anyone experiencing gastrointestinal illness, such as sudden and ongoing diarrhea, should contact their health care provider and their local health department.”

In addition to Michigan, the CDC says the outbreak has affected 33 other states, with cases on the rise nationwide.

Cyclosporiasis is caused by a parasite and infects the intestinal tract.
