The Steam Railroading Institute's planned summer lecture series begins June 24th with a look at the history of the Pere Marquette 1225.

Bill Struck will detail the origins of the PM 1225 and its journey to Owosso, the event invite reads.

Hear why the PM 1225 is rightly called “The Spartan Locomotive” and “The Real Polar Express.”


The PM 1225, one of the largest steam locomotives ever to operate in Michigan, was restored by MSU students - from a rusting shell to full operation - and is now owned, maintained, and operated by Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso.

The lecture series is free for members of SRI and just $5 for non-members.

Future lectures are planned throughout the summer.

Steam Railroading Institute is located at 405 S. Washington Street in Owosso.
